It is also a major ingredient in agricultural lime and also used as an antacid or calcium supplement in medical applications. There are two chief sources from which calcium carbonate can be obtained. Calcite, aragonite, vaterite, limestone, marble, travertine and chalks are key geological sources of calcium carbonate. Biological sources include oyster shells, eggshells, snail shells, and most of the sea shells.
On the basis of product segments, calcium carbonate market can be classified as precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) and ground calcium carbonate (GCC). Calcium carbonate has a wide range of applications in plastics, paper, agriculture, pharmaceutical, construction, architecture, coatings and also in environmental applications.
